Phyllis BONE 1896 - 1972
Born in 1896, Phyllis Bone studied at Edinburgh and Paris, and is known primarily for her sculptures of animals. She also illustrated books including ‘Animal Heraldic Sculpture' and ‘Deer Talk'. She was also the first female to be elected as a Royal Scottish Academician, in 1944. Bone also worked with the sculptor Pilkington Hackson, and was linked to Robert Lorimer's commission for the Scottish National War Memorial. The pencil drawing here is executed in a delicate fashion and depicts one of Bone's favourite subjects.
